A shot of fame
Manny Pacquiao. Oh boy he was Michael Jordan meets Brad Pitt meets 50 Cent meets Bill Gates all rolled into one for most of the Filipinos. He has, no doubt, did a commendable job by knocking out Morales. It did create another Filipino frenzy recorded in the books. One thing to be proud of.Pacquiao's popularity at the moment is insurmountable. As a matter of fact, his name was among Yahoo's top sought after word in searches under the sports category. But I was very disappointed by the way things was turning around. Suddenly Pacquiao, who was dubbed as the country's "Pambansang Kamao" became the "Pambansang Sawsawan". As if everyone especially politicians wanted to ride on his fame. Lahat na nakikisawsaw: pekeng presidente, asawa ng pekeng presidente, senador, congressman, mayor na bulaklakin ang damit, konsehal, tv network, host na bulol ng tv network, mga artista, pulitko, hay naku di na mabilang! Truly I am happy and proud of Pacquiao, but at the same time, I am very sorry for him things ended up this way. Though how innocent and sincere his words may seem urging our countrymen to unite for a cause, it was constantly blemished each time another politician grabbed every inch of opportunity to profess their selfish motives. Shame on them. |
